Charity Golf Tournament 2014

by

In memory of Neil Williamson and in support of the Motor Neurone Disease Association.

Hello Golfers!

Saturday, 21 June 2014 was a fabulous day, the sun shone, the breeze breezed and 60 or so golfers had a fantastic round at Finca Cortesin. I refer, of course, to the 6th Spence Clarke & Co. Annual Charity Golf Day for Motor Neurone Disease Association.

For all the technical details of the day please go to:

Patrick Jones and his team were the winners with Paul Megran and his team coming in second. Well done teams. A special mention has to go to Patrick, who as usual, donated his fabulous motor boat cruise to our auction, this proved to be an irresistible prize and raised an astounding 1,000 Euro for the Charity – our best auction price of the day! The whole auction was a great success and again, contributors overwhelmed us with their generosity in providing fabulous prizes and also the bidders showed there was no stopping them when it came to such a worthy charitable cause. The Auctioneer, none other than Mr Giles Brown of Talk Radio Europe, played no small part in this, his auctioneering skills were second to none. Thank you Giles!

I have to give a huge thank you to our very own Spence Clarke staff too, who yet again proved their raffling expertise by raising over 1,000 Euros, a record! Also, a thank you to Thomas for producing, with the aid of his driver Danni, some of the best photographs we have ever had! Thank you too, to IT wizard, David Friend, without whom, we would not have such fabulous flyers announcing the golf day!

Huge thanks to Mark Bruce and Shuj Datoo of Golf the Costa, together with Annalisa, for organising another superb event, their effort and commitment to the day, as always, proved invaluable. Mark secured such a good deal with the Club and this afforded many participants to play Finca Cortesin for the first time. Thanks guys, it is always a great pleasure working with you!

Thanks must also go to Carlos and his team at Finca Cortesin, who looked after all the players so well, underlining the reputation Finca Cortesin has for being one of the best courses on the Coast. The course also lived up to its reputation, challenging most players but we rose gallantly to that challenge, well most of us did, my own team’s score will be lightly skipped over but for the curious you can find us at number 14 on the above link!

Due to a number of factors, mainly the sheer number of competing events on the day, our players list was quite a bit less than last year but this seemed to suit the more intimate environment of the Club, the atmosphere throughout was one of great fun and enjoyment. Despite the reduced numbers, the day proved the best ever in terms of funds raised for the Charity and, if all pledges come in (we are awaiting a couple of sponsor pledges to come through as we go to press), the total raised will be an astonishing 12,109.47 Euro!! Words almost fail me.

One of our Sponsors has offered the possibility for us to continue to add to that fund raising total during the next 12 months. Long established Insurance Broker, Op de Beeck & Worth will donate 10% of any commission received on new business throughout the next 12 months which comes from Players who took part at Finca Cortesin. Why not simply contact them on info@opdebeeck-worth.com or 95 288 2273 and let them quote for your insurance requirements in Spain. You don’t stand to lose anything, yet you may end up saving some money on your insurance bill as well as providing further support to the Charity!!

THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH FOR YOUR PART IN THIS DAY WHETHER AS A SPONSOR, PLAYER, DONOR OR A VALUABLE PAIR OF HANDS ON THE DAY!

Golfingly yours,

Susan J. Spence Clarke
