This year’s 9th Annual Charity Golf Day was held on Saturday, 3 June 2017, and what a day it was! We had a great team turnout and many of the tees were taken by sponsors, for which we are all very grateful, thank you guys! We returned to the fabulous El Paraiso Golf Club, which it has to be said, looked even more beautiful than last year. How do they keep doing this?
The winning teams were:
- 1st place: Gabriel Maquiera, Mike Christophers, Peter Boettcher, Oscar Rodrigues - net score 53.3
- 2nd place: Pat Jones, Mike Downes, Nick Brown, Charlie Smith - net score 59.3
- 3rd place: Paul Roebuck, Beverly Collett, David Dalton, Stuart Bright - net score 60.1

Thanks must go to each and every one of you golfing people, your generosity and good humouredness made the day so very memorable. Thank you all for taking part in the competition, special thanks to my own team, we didn’t win but we had such a great time. I have to say that my usual golfing partner Oscar Eguren could not make it this year, first time in 9 years, Oscar you were greatly missed of course but somewhat well replaced by Mr Michael Barrs.
Thank you to all the hole sponsors, your presence really added a special atmosphere to the day and your generosity made the day the success it was, thank you all!
We received huge support from sponsors of the auction with some superb prizes, raising 1,980 Euro. We also had some fabulous prizes donated for the raffle, which raised a pretty staggering 948 Euro, a big thank you to all those who bought raffle tickets and a big thank you to the Spence Clarke Team who did their usual excellent job of selling so many raffle tickets. A special thank you to Galina Ivanova and Sandra Mole, both fine members of Spence Clarke & Co., for organising the whole day, a great job guys!
The whole day resulted in the amount of 9,327,54 Euro being raised, due to the generosity of the Spence Clarke staff members, we were able to tip over the 9.2k Euro band, as they donated their travelling expenses for the day, thank you so much guys.
Huge thanks must go to David and Robert, together with whole brilliant El Paraiso team, who ensured everything ran smoothly on the day.
Paul and his catering team also deserve huge praise for their superb Indian themed lunch, we have never received so many compliments about the food provided on any of our previous golf days. Thank you all so very much and I think this will set the trend for coming events!
Giles Brown, of Talk Radio Europe, returned wearing his auctioneer of the year hat. He really is so very, very good at this, it was a real treat watching Giles in action and it is so very generous of him to give his time, each year, to this day. Thank you Giles! Also a thank you to Ken Lingwood who did an equally impressive turn as green fee auctioneer and also huge thanks to him for providing so many green fees for the auction. Great stuff!
Thank you too to our wonderful IT guy, Mr David Friend for his continued support, in freely giving of his time and effort in producing the fab flyers. If you are ever looking for a solution to any IT problem, you really should contact David on email@example.com
Thanks to Magpie Gallery who provided us with the amazing mural artist, Anula Mixtura (Ana), who impressed everyone present by painting a beautiful Art Deco inspired golfer portrait, for more information on Ana’s amazing work please go to: anulamixtura.com
Thanks too to Mark Bruce and Shuj Datoo, the odd (very) couple from Golf the Costa, for their unstinting efforts and commitment to the day. Thank you both so much, so generous and, as always a delight to work with! A Special mention to Shuj, who shared his 69th birthday with us on the day!
Basically a big, big thank you to everyone who supported the day. As usual your generosity was quite overwhelming. I will be placing the usual ‘Thank You’ advertisement in the lovely glossy and ever supporting, Essential Magazine, August edition.
Look forward to seeing you all next year!
