In memory of Neil Williamson and in support of the Motor Neurone Disease Association.
This year’s 8th Annual Charity Golf Day was held on Sunday, 22 May 2016, and what a day it was! The event is being hailed as one of, if not the, best day yet. We had a record number of teams and a record number of hole sponsors. We returned to the fabulous El Paraiso Golf Club, which it has to be said, looked even more beautiful than last year.
There were 99 golfers and 17 of the 18 holes were taken by independent sponsors!

Thanks must go to each and every one of you golfing people, your generosity and good humouredness made the day so very memorable. Thank you all for taking part in the competition, special thanks to my own team, we didn’t win but we had such a great time!
Thank you to all the hole sponsors, your presence really added a special atmosphere to the day and your generosity made the day one of the best to date, thank you all!
We received huge support from sponsors of the auction with some superb prizes, raising 2,470 Euro. We also had some fabulous prizes donated for the raffle, which raised a pretty staggering 1,215 Euro, a big thank you to all those who bought raffle tickets and a big thank you to the Spence Clarke Team who did their usual excellent job of selling so many raffle tickets. A special thank you to Galina Ivanova and Sandra Mole, both fine members of Spence Clarke & Co., for organising the whole day, a great job guys! Details of all sponsors can be found on www.sevagolf.com/event/spence-clarke-co-charity-golf-day
The whole day resulted in the amount of 11737.75 Euro being raised for the Motor Neurone Disease Association, our second best ever!!
Huge thanks must go to David and his brilliant El Paraiso team, who ensured everything ran smoothly on the day. The catering team also deserve huge praise for their excellent BBQ and good humoured and efficient service, thank you all so very much.
Giles Brown, of Talk Radio Europe, returned wearing his auctioneer of the year hat. He really is so very, very good at this, it was a real treat watching Giles in action and it is so very generous of him to give his time, each year, to this day. Thank you Giles!
Thank you too to our wonderful IT guy, Mr David Friend for all his continued support, in freely giving of his time and effort in producing the fab flyers and this page. If you are ever looking for a solution to any IT problem, you really should contact David on david@systembit.com.
I must also thank Mark Rood, our photographer for the day, a great guy and as you can see by the results, a great photographer, if you are ever looking for a great photographer you can contact Mark on mark@iblueskyphotography.com.
Thanks too to Mark Bruce and Shuj Datoo, the odd (very) couple from Golf the Costa, for their unstinting efforts and commitment to the day. Thank you both so much, so generous and, as always a delight to work with!
Basically a huge thank you to everyone who supported the day. As usual your generosity was quite overwhelming. I will be placing the usual ‘Thank You’ advertisement in the lovely glossy and ever supporting, Essential Magazine.
A special thanks to Chris Warren of Renson Management, (see www.rensonmanagement.com) and Danni Worth of Op de Beeck & Worth, (see www.opdebeeck-worth.com), for their selfless participation in the Ice Bucket Challenge! The two volunteers(ish) were Michael Egan and Miguel Ángel Blanca Prieto both fine members of Spence Clarke & Co. Even though Michael did win by quite a large margin, we thought it only fair for Miguel to also be included in the ‘icing’!! It has subsequently been uncovered that Mr Warren adopted a somewhat strategic ploy in his pouring of the iced water, in that instead of a quick burst over Michael’s head, he very slowly let the water pour out of the container, ensuring that Michael could savour every last droplet of the freezing brew!! This event raised a chilling 380 Euro!!
A special mention to Anne Karkic; Anne has been a valued supporter of our golf day for many years, unfortunately Anne could not attend this year, as the day fell on the same day that a memorial was being held for a dear friend of Anne’s who had recently died from Motor Neurone Disease.
As you know, the day is held in memory of Neil Williamson, who sadly became a victim of this awful disease. Derek, Neil’s father, is the reason we started this event. Derek holds an annual golfing event in the UK, this year the combined amount of funds raised for the Charity is some 110,000 pounds sterling! Well done to everyone involved!
Golfingly yours,
Susan J. Spence Clarke
