Charity Golf Day 29 June 2012 – Be there or be square!

by

This year we are holding our annual charity golf day on June 29th at the San Roque Club golf course. In the last three years we have raised 25,000 € for the Motor Neurone Disease Association and this year we want to break the 10,000 € barrier! Help us raise money for the charity and have fun at the same time!

The San Roque old course is one of the favourite golf courses on the Costa del Sol and the club has a fine reputation for catering.

The golf tournament will be accompanied by a BBQ, fun auction and raffles. Players with their family and friends will be more than welcome. It really is a case of ‘the more the merrier!’

We became involved in raising money for the MNDA when we were approached by a client whose son had suffered this crippling and terrible disease and our golf day is held annually in memory of Neil Williamson. Having been asked just to sponsor the event, one thing led to another and we now run this event annually.

As soon as we announced the first golf day we were were astonished to be approached by so many people whose life had been affected by the disease and this made us more determined to make the event a success and raise as much money as possible for the charity.

Our first three annual golf days were held at the El Paraiso Golf Club whose enthusiastic support was invaluable for getting the event off the ground and helping us make the first three events the great success that they were. We remain very grateful indeed to the El Paraiso Club and its staff.

This year we decided that a change of venue to the Sotogrande area would not only help to spread the word about the MNDA but also make things a little easier for all our supporters in Gibraltar and the surrounding Sotogrande area.

The Patrons of the Association are HRH The Princess Royal, neurologist and four minute mile record breaker Roger Bannister, entrepreneur and philanthropist Joel Cadbury, palliative medicine consultant Baroness Finlay, neuroscientist, broadcaster and author Baroness Greenfield, TV personality Sir David Frost, world-renowned cosmologist Stephen Hawking (who is living with MND), Jamie Niven (Senior Vice President at Sotheby’s art dealers in New York and younger son of cinema legend David Niven who died from MND), politician Lembit Öpik MP (who lost his father to MND in 2005 and who is Chair of Patrons), and American businessman James Sherwood.

Whilst the MNDA is a UK registered charity it participates in funding international research initiatives (in Spain as well) and provides help to sufferers and their families based in the Costa de Sol, Gibraltar and elsewhere in the peninsular.

The event receives funds from the players, the hole sponsors, raffles and the auction. Spence Clarke pay for all the costs of organising the event and, apart from the direct costs of the golf course and catering, 100% of the funds go straight to the MNDA.

Help us help the MNDA by sponsoring a hole, playing a round of golf, contributing to the raffle prizes and the goods and services that will be auctioned.

And help us have a fun day!
